Orfhlaith Egan paints A Soft Day and more
As a self-taught mixed media artist based in Berlin, I explore the deeper memory world of archetypes and how they resonate in the landscape around us.
Growing up in the West of Ireland influenced my exploration of memory and imagination, both of which are central to my work and rather than specific places or people are a deeper reflection on nature and the ways it can develop our experience of the present, by means of a generational memory that is a thread I try to tease out in my paintings, drawing inspiration from folklore and mythology to unravel the hidden stories that our natural surroundings hold.
My work explores the shifting nature of memory, perception, and place. Rooted in painting, I transform physical canvases into digitally enhanced stills and GIFs (+117M views of my original GIFS on giphy), creating generative artworks that feel both ancient and electric. Inspired by the landscapes of my home in Cornamona, Ireland, I seek to capture the fluid, ephemeral beauty of light, time, and emotion. The digital medium allows me to push these themes further, creating glowing, layered compositions that exist beyond the limits of paint. My Rise Up collection, for example, evolves from a single painting, echoing the way identity and history fragment and reform. I’m drawn to the tension between the organic and the digital, the past and the present—finding meaning in the in-between spaces.
Combining traditional drawing and painting techniques with digital manipulation and collage elements to create intricate and vibrant artworks that inspire curiosity and reflection, some artworks ask abstract questions, while others are simply a reason to pause, look, take a breath and remember.
